About Certification




SR Asia Global Certification Program (Certification Program) is designated for individuals who want to enhance their expertise, knowledge, and skills in sustainability report (SR) and integrated report (IR) drafting or assurance. The main objective of the Program is to facilitate capacity building for the individuals, as well as to create opportunities for experts obtaining their professional credentials as a report writer or assuror. 
The Certification Program consists of Level 1 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Reporting Professional (CISP) and Level 2 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Assuror (CISA). In the Program, participants experience different learning approaches and methodologies, including webinar/online class, group discussion, exercise, and a reporting project. To obtain the certification, participants must pass several exams. For non-experienced participants, SR Asia provides preparation training covering a number of topics relevant and significant to build capacities of the participants. Experienced writers shall submit proof of experience and can directly enrol in the examination. After passing the exams, certified writers and assurors can have their own accounts in SR Asia Great, to differentiate them from those of other report writers and assurors.
Initiated first in Indonesia, the SR Asia Global Certification Program is organized by Social Responsibility Asia (SR Asia) in collaboration with the Atma Jaya Catholic University.

Professionals that have passed the exams and obtained the certification are expected to have competencies in the following areas:
Level 1 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Reporting Professional (CISP)
  1. Identify sustainability context of reporting organization
  2. Analyze sustainability report (SR) or Integrated Report (IR) data and information
  3. Develop an SR/IR concept and outline
  4. Develop and write SR/IR content
  5. Promote and consult about SR/IR content development

Level 2 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Report Assuror (CISA)

  1. Develop SR/IR assurance plan
  2. Analyze SR/IR content
  3. Manage and analyze SR/IR evidence documents
  4. Utilize SR Asia GREAT assurance platform
  5. Develop conclusions and recommendations
  6. Write an Assurance Independent Statement
  7. Write a Management Letter
  8. Promote and consult about SR/IR assurance

Core Competency

Training subjects of the SR Asia Global Certification Program are designed to enhance the following core competencies:

Level 1 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Reporting Professionals (CISP)

1. Understand sustainable development and sustainability concept and principles, and also some globally-recognized standard

2. Understand the concept and principles of SR/IR

3. Understand the various approach of sustainability or integrated reporting

4. Understand the roles and ethics of an SR/IR report writer

5. Understand the basic concept of corporate communication and graphic design

6. Understand challenges in SR/IR translation

7. Have knowledge and skills to develop SR/IR concept and outline; including identifying sustainability context, material topics, reporting boundary, key stakeholders, organization values, and performance disclosures.

8. Have knowledge and skills to write an SR/IR based on globally accepted report-writing standard

9. Have knowledge and skills to present and guide the clients about SR/IR development strategy

 

Level 2 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Report Assuror (CISA)

1. Understand the concept and process of assurance

2. Understand the roles and ethics of an SR/IR assuror

3. Have knowledge and skills to develop an assurance plan

4. Have knowledge and skills to analyze SR/IR content; including data in tables and graphs

5. Have knowledge and skills to analyze and manage evidence documents

6. Have knowledge and skills to utilize SR Asia GREAT assurance tool

7. Have knowledge and skills to generate recommendations for improvements based on initial SR/IR assessment

8. Have knowledge and skills to develop conclusions and recommendations

9. Have knowledge and skills to develop and draft an independent assurance statement and management letter, based on commonly accepted report-writing standard

10. Have knowledge and skills to present and guide the clients about SR/IR development strategy

 

Credit

Each non-experienced participant is expected to complete the training program before enrolling in the examinations.  
Level 1 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Reporting Professionals (CISP)
  • Core: 20 credits
  • Elective: 6 credits
Level 2 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Report Assuror (CISA)
  • Core: 20 credits
  • Elective: 6 credits
One credit equals to 2 sessions, with the duration of 75 minutes per session (1 credit = 2 sessions = 150 minutes).
The experienced writers who want to obtain the certification shall submit proof of experience and enrol directly in the examinations.

Participants of the Certification Program are expected to take three elective subjects (2 credits per subject, a total of 6 credits) among the following:

  3. Introduction to the Green Productivity Concept and Principles
  4. Introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Mapping and Reporting
  5. Introduction to the Communication on Progress (COP), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) 
  6. Introduction to the Task Force on Climate Finance Disclosure (TCFD)
  7. Introduction to Sustainable Banking Assessment (SUSBA), World Wildlife Fund (WWF)
  8. Introduction to ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility
  9. Introduction to the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
  10. Introduction to Carbon Footprint counting and Reduction
  11. Introduction to the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

Please be informed that not all elective subjects are offered in each batch due to the availability of the lecturers and the number of participants. Kindly contact the Registration Officer to get further information about the elective subjects that are currently open for enrollment. Participants may ask for opening a particular subject if a minimum of 8 participants in each session is fulfilled.


Training Requirements

Participants who want to join the preparation training programs shall meet the following requirements:
 
Level 1 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Reporting Professional (CISP)
  1. Minimum 21 years old
  2. Have good business-report writing skills, preferably in English
  3. Have good expertise and experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  4. Fill and submit the registration form
  5. Pay training fees


Level 2 Certified Integrated and Sustainability Report Assuror (CISA)

  1. An active member of SR Asia Level 1 CISA Certified Writer, for at least two years minimum
  2. Have good business-report writing skills in English
  3. Have good expertise and experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  4. Fill and submit the registration form
  5. Pay training fees

Examination

Level 1 Certified Writer (CISP)
Comprehensive exam: 100 questions
Writing exam: one SR / IR writing-case of three pages
Engage in one SR/IR writing project of a company (at least the project was from the last two years period prior to the date of presentation exam)
Presentation exam, present the writing project above in front of the juries:
  1. Overview of the reporting company
  2. Overview of the SR drafting project activities and the role in the project
  3. The theme of the report
  4. Standards and regulations used as a reference to develop the SR / IR content
  5. Sustainability context of the company
  6. Materiality topics that are covered in the report
  7. Key stakeholders that are described in the report
  8. Report boundaries of the report
  9. Values of the company (only in the Integrated Report) that are presented in the report
  10. Sustainability strategy of the reporting company
  11. Sustainability governance practices of the reporting company
  12. Challenges of the reporting project
  13. Recommendations for improvements in the report

Level 2 Certified Assuror (CISA)


Comprehensive exam: 100 questions
Case analysis: one independent assurance statement case of three pages
SR Asia Great assurance tool exam
Engage in one SR/IR assurance project of a company (at least the project was from the last two years period prior to the date of presentation exam)
Presentation exam, present the assurance project above in front of the juries:
  1. Overview of the SR / IR assurance project activities
  2. The conclusions from the assurance results, including its adherence to the SR / IR standards and regulations
  3. The recommendations for improvement
  4. Independent assurance statement
  5. Management letter

Examination Requirements

Level 1 Certified Writer
  1. Submit personal profile
  2. Fill and submit the application form
  3. Pay exam fees


Level 2 Certified Assuror
  1. An active member of Level 1 CISP, for the last two years minimum
  2. Submit personal profile
  3. Fill and submit the application form
  4. Pay exam fees

Passing Grade

Level 1 Certified Writer

  1. Comprehensive Exam: 70%
  2. Presentation Exam: 75%
  3. Case Writing Exam: 75%
  4. Presentation Exam: 75%

Level 2 Certified Assuror

  1. Comprehensive Exam: 70%
  2. Case Analysis: 75%
  3. SR Asia Great Assurance Tool Exam: 75%
  4. Presentation Exam: 75%

Validity and Extension

Level 1 CISP Validity and Extension

Requirements to obtain Level 1 CISP SR Asia Global Certification and Membership, and to have an account in SR Asia Great, are:
  1. Pass Level 1 CISP examinations
  2. Pay membership fees of Level 1 CISP (two-year membership)
Level 1 CISP Certification and Membership is valid for the first two years after passing the exams, and it can be extended for every two years. Certified writers use and update their accounts in SR Asia Great, presenting their professional profiles and track records in SR/IR projects. To maintain membership and credential, a certified writer must engage: 
  1. As a Lead writer* minimum in one SR or IR writing projects within a two-year membership period; or
  2. As an Associate Writer** minimum one SR or IR writing project every year

The inability to meet the requirements above shall result in the termination of Level 1 CISP Certification and Membership, and an obligation to re-take the Level 1 examinations.



Level 2 CISA Validity and Extension

Requirements to obtain Level 2 CISA SR Asia Global Certification and Membership, and to have an account in SR Asia Great, are:

  1. Pass Level 2 CISA examination, SR Asia Global Certification Program
  2. Pay membership fees of Level 2 CISA (every two years)

Level 2 CISA Certification and Membership is valid for the first two years after passing the exams, and it can be extended for every two years. Certified assurors use and update their accounts in SR Asia Great, presenting their professional profiles and track records in SR/IR projects. Certified assurors are mandated to use SR Asia Great assurance tool in conducting assurance projects (SR Asia charges a small amount of fee for each use of the assurance tool). To maintain membership and credential, a certified assuror must engage:

  1. In minimum one SR/IR assurance project within a two-year membership period; or
  2. As a Lead writer* in minimum one SR/IR writing project within a two-year membership period

The inability to meet the requirements above shall result in the termination of Level 2 CISA Certification and Membership, and an obligation to re-take the Level 2 examinations.

Title

Those who passed Level 1 may add the CISP (Certified Integrated and Sustainability Reporting Professional) title after the name, while those who passed Level 2 may add the CISA (Certified Integrated and Sustainability Report Assuror). Please be noted that as a certified professional, one shall maintain knowledge and skills in both reporting or assuror projects.

Termination

SR Asia has the right to directly terminate membership under the following terms:

  1. Fail to meet the clauses indicated in “Validity and Extension”
  2. Proven to violate SR Asia code of conduct and values
  3. Unable to demonstrate impartiality in conducting the works as a certified professional


*Lead writer writes at least 60% of the report content.

**Associate Writer writes at least 30% of the report content.
